Joe Cleary's psychoanalytic psychotherapy room in Belfast on the Lisburn Road.
Joe Cleary, psychoanalytic psychotherapist working on the Lisburn Road in Belfast

Hi there.

My name is Joe Cleary, and I’m a psychotherapist working in Belfast on the Lisburn Road, here. I work one-to-one with adults, and my approach is best suited to people who know that they need more than a quick-fix solution. I’ve gained more than ten thousand hours experience over the last fifteen years working with hundreds of people on a wide variety of issues.

I’ve gained my extensive experience working in psychiatric settings, mental health charities and private practice with people in varying levels of ill health or distress. I studied and trained in college for seven years in order to do this work, earning a degree in philosophy and two masters degrees in psychoanalytic theory and practice.

I’m fully insured and a Registered Practitioner with the Association for Psychoanalysis and Psychohterapy in Ireland (APPI), a member of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP), and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

The fee is £60 - but the centre that I work in also has a low-cost option to work with psychotherapists in training. If that option would suit you better I can help you access it.

If you have health insurance, and you want to see if it covers this approach before committing to an appointment, I can supply you with the information you’ll need .

Finally, here are some FAQs and their answers.

Get in Touch

If you want to book an appointment, or want to find out more information about how I work, please get in contact. Please include your phone number so I can give you a call. If I don’t think that my approach fits what you’re looking for I’m happy to help you find a therapist that can offer you a better fit. You may also not know exactly what it is you’re looking for, and that can be clarified in a phonecall without any obligation to make an appointment.
